Make a reboarding plan have regular check-ins
Before your employee returns to work, make time to work with them on a reboarding plan. Think about how you’ll ensure they’re across any changes to the organisation, how they’ll be updated on key projects or new ventures, and take some time to factor in their own needs in the return to work. This means taking into account flexibility needs, breastfeeding consideration, safe work needs and more.
It can be helpful to break it down into what day one looks like, what week one looks like etc.
This is also a good time to agree to some regular check ins, so you can keep checking in with your employee as they transition from working person to working parent.
Familiarise yourself with your legal obligations
Under Australian law, parents of young children are entitled to certain legal protections. Make time to familiarise yourself with these laws sooner rather than later.
